It's just a game

Did you have a good weekend?
Last weekend the Hawthorn Hawks beat the Geelong Cats in the grand final. Nothing wrong with supporting a team but it infuriates me when people judge their weekend over whether their team won or lost. I am sure there were some disappointed Geelong supporters but if I hear another person saying their entire weekend sucked/that they are suicidal/that their life is over; then I am going hit them. Passionately and potentially with great violence
Support your team, enjoy them, wear your swanies scarf as you drunkenly dance on the RSL dance floor on a Saturday night (just remember scarves are long and if you add alcohol to that equation, it equals a tripping hazard), cheer them on, be a face painter, enjoy your passion. But if they lose, get a grip. Football, whether it be rugby league, rugby union, AFL, NFL or soccer; is out of your league. You are a spectator and you watch a spectator sport. You do not participate beyond your cheer. It is not your life.
Presumably you already have a life, you draw breath, hopefully you have your health and a handy social support structure (also known in some circles as friends). The sun is shining and summer is nigh. You just had two days off work, some of you have an additional day off tomorrow. So get a grip people.
Right now, it's half time in the grand final of the NRL, Manly Sea Eagles are winning 8-0 to the Melbourne Storm. Outside the streets are deserted, Sydney is a veritable ghost town. That's pretty amazing but when this game winds down and your team has lost, just suck it up and move on.

Very true - it is a game, but of course things like tribalism come into it and the fact to many, they have nothing more in their lives therefore their sporting team becomes their defacto family. I for one passionately follow my beloved west coast eagles but can also separate a loss from them from the mainstream of everyday life. Some can't and yes it is a shame.
The titles on your website are great - you are obviously a very talented graphic designer...enjoying your blogs - very informative and easy to relate to. congrats on a successful debut.

As Bill Shanky says “Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."
It is about PASSION! I love my footy and yes get emotional about it. Come State of Origin time, if we win the series, I am on a high for days. Sure you can watch it passively like say watching the news, for you that is fine. But for us others, we are emotionally invested in our team and it feels great to win and devastating when we lose. Rather that use your passion to hit football supporters, why not become one?
